Admission Requirements

Each applicant is evaluated based on individual merit and demonstrated success in a rigorous academic environment. High school coursework, grade point average, and ACT/SAT scores are weighed heavily; however, these criteria do not constitute the entire foundation for an admission decision. An applicant with a 3.0 grade point average and a 21 composite ACT score or 1060 composite SAT score is considered a strong candidate for admission. UAH will accept your ACT Superscore, meaning we will consider your highest ACT section scores regardless of the test date. Students are encouraged to send UAH all their ACT scores to utilize the Superscore option. If an ACT score is submitted, UAH requires that all four traditional ACT subject sections (English, Math, Reading, Science) are submitted for admissions consideration.

High School Students

• A minimum of four units of English.
• Three units of mathematics, including Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry (Trigonometry is also highly suggested by the College of Engineering and recommended by all other colleges).
• Three units of science.
• Four units of history and/or social studies.
• Academic electives to meet the required twenty Carnegie high school units. These may include foreign language, computer programming, religion, and philosophy courses as well as higher-level science and math courses.
• Applicants with deficiencies in the required high school courses may be admitted in good standing under certain circumstances. The deficiencies, however, must be remedied during the first year of enrollment in a manner approved by the concerned department. Courses taken to remedy entrance deficiencies cannot be used to satisfy degree requirements.

Homeschool Students

All prospective students, whether in a high school or a homeschool program, must meet the same admissions standards. Admissions decisions will be based on grades and test scores earned within the student’s first four years of high school enrollment.

Accredited Homeschool Program Applicants

Students who have been completing an accredited homeschool program or who have been following the curriculum of a cover school are required to follow these transcript guidelines:

• An official transcript including academic record beginning with grade nine is required. Upon graduation, a final transcript including the student’s complete academic record and graduation date will also be required.
• Transcripts must be signed by an administrator to be considered official.
• If necessary, descriptions of each course completed, textbooks used, and the teaching credentials of the homeschool teacher may be requested.

Non-Accredited or Self-Designed Homeschool Program Applicants

In an effort to evaluate each student’s application equitably, students who have been following a non-accredited or self-designed homeschool program are required to follow these transcript guidelines:

• Using the UAH Non-Accredited or Self-Designed Homeschool Transcript Template, provide a full academic record beginning with grade nine, descriptions of each course completed, and textbooks used.
• To be considered official, this document must be signed by an administrator.
• Upon graduation, the UAH homeschool transcript should be submitted again and should include the student’s complete academic record through grade 12 and graduation date.
• If necessary, additional documentation may be requested.

GED Recipients

Applicants who have not graduated from high school may be admitted on the basis of a satisfactory score on the GED test.

The application process for GED recipients is the same as shown on this page, with one added step: send your official GED test scores to the Admissions Office (minimum score of 170 in all subject areas). Scores can be accessed directly from GED.com.

Test Optional Admission

New freshmen applicants have the option to apply for admission on a test-optional basis.

UAH will not require new freshman students to submit an ACT or SAT score when applying for admission for the Fall 2024 - Fall 2025 terms. On the admissions application, students will have the option to select if they plan to submit test scores for admission and scholarship purposes. A strong candidate for test-optional admission should have a 3.5 high school GPA. Students who feel their ACT or SAT test scores accurately reflect their quality of work in high school are encouraged to submit test scores and not apply test-optional.

Tentative Admission

Tentative admission will be granted on the basis of ACT or SAT scores and the high school record through your junior year. A final official transcript showing work completed in the senior year and confirmation of graduation will be reviewed before a student's final admission. If, after a student is admitted to the university, information comes to light that indicates an applicant did not meet admission requirements, the applicant's offer of admission may be rescinded or altered at the discretion of the university.

New Student Orientation provides you the opportunity to meet with an academic advisor, register for classes, meet other new students, and more.

Finances and Scholarships

Scholarship consideration will be given to all first-time freshmen who are offered admission to UAH. No separate scholarship application is required. Award amounts are based on each student's high school GPA, ACT or SAT score, and residency status. All Freshman Academic Scholarships are four-year awards for undergraduate work for the fall and spring semesters, renewable each semester based on full-time student status and satisfactory academic progress.

Focus on your education, not paying for it. We are committed to helping you find all the financial aid options available to you. At UAH, more than two-thirds of our students receive financial assistance of some kind.

To be considered for all types of federal aid, U.S. citizens and permanent residents should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.gov using the UAH School Code (001055). Students planning to utilize VA education benefits should contact the Military and Veterans Programs Office at va@uah.edu or 256.824.2758.

Accept or decline your scholarship and/or financial aid awards through your my.uah.edu account once you receive your official financial aid award package information from the Office of Financial Aid. Student Services and Housing

All first-time, full-time freshman students with a permanent legal residence beyond a 30-mile radius of campus are required to live in campus residence halls during their first year. Apply for housing with Housing and Residence Life.

To set up your myUAH account on UAH’s secure web portal, visit reset.uah.edu and follow the prompts to create your password. As a UAH student, you will use your myUAH account by visiting my.uah.edu to access campus information, accept or decline financial aid, register for classes, view your grades, see your academic transcript, and pay your bill.

To access your UAH email account (@uah.edu), visit mail.uah.edu and enter your Charger email address as the username and your myUAH password.

The Fall 2024 admission deadline for first time freshmen, transfer, and readmit students is August 14, 2024. The application for admission and all required supplemental items must be received by this date to be considered for Fall 2024 admission.

UAH does not require letters of recommendation or an essay for admission consideration.
